The JHV3 ghost drive is the best overdrive pedal I’ve played. Everywhere I play, I get so many compliments about the tone of my overdrive. It sounds phenomenal and It looks awesome too! If you are looking for a great lower gain overdrive, do yourself a favor and look into the JHV3 ghost drive”

The Ghost Drive is a hand crafted versatile low-medium gain overdrive and clean boost designed specifically to enhance an already outstanding guitar and amp combination. Boost and Drive circuits, with reversible order, work independently or complementary.

The drive side features: selectable clipping for early or late breakup in tight/focused or loose/amp-like forms; a unique tone circuit which warms without dulling attack, invigorates highs without becoming harsh, and avoids overly accentuated mids associated with classic overdrives; the ability to re-introduce pure/clean input with the overdrive signal which subtly replaces any fullness or chime lost during clipping.

The clean boost provides copious amounts of pristine clean headroom and when set at unity can serve to buffer your signal through the effects that follow in your signal chain.

The Ghost Drive excels as a exceptional tone protecting overdrive and boost that inspires you play!

High Gain Custom Option:

For amps with higher power and more clean headroom a higher gain version will provide 5 times the gain and grit while maintaining the tonal characteristics of your guitar. Hint: if higher gain is your thing, adding a more traditional tight/early breakup clipping combination in one position of the diode selector will provide a full, fat, solo “channel” with singing sustain and solid single notes even above the 12th fret.

Many thanks to MZH!

Features:

  • Rich low/medium gain overdrive paired with an independent clean boost.
  • The separate clean boost circuit provides over 25db of useful and pristine clean signal boost to stand out or induce natural pre-amp overdrive. An internal gain adjustment (via trim pot) allows the flexibility of adding a nice edge when turned up past 12:00, or taming the output for clean headroom throughout the range of the level control.
  • Overdrive section utilizes the “pure” knob to reintroduce a buffered pre-clipping signal back into the chain before it leaves the overdrive through the volume control. An internal trim pot adjusts the gain of the pure signal to further fine tune the presence of both signals at the output.
  •  Selectable clipping character which influences “feel”, intensity of breakup, and available volume: 4 grit and 1 clean w/ multiple combinations
  • Effect order switch with current order indicated by the color of the “pure” adjustment. The illuminated knob indicates which effect is last in line: (blue=drive after boost, white=boost after drive). This flexibility creates an all new pedal with different dynamics when both effects are active.
  • Three Internal Level Adjustments control Boost gain, “PURE” mix clean gain, and Overdrive Bass content
  • True bypass switching via very high quality relays with nickel and silver contacts. This decreases the signal path length inside the pedal and provides a cleaner connection especially when bypassed. (compared to industry standard switches)
  • Microcontroller system manages switching and indicators.
  • Limited Edition finish has embossed metal art and labels exposed and polished through a thick layer of jet black powder coat. The case is then covered in a thick layer of graffiti proof clear powder coat that will seal the deal for the next millennium, approximately.
  • Extended headroom when used with higher voltage. Rated for use up to 18v.

CUSTOM OPTIONS:

  • Increased available gain
  • Uniquely tailored tone control (leans towards bright at 12, leans towards dark at 12, etc)
  • Clipping methods/combinations (classic overdrive compression, very late breakup, softer clipping edges, etc.)
  • Case Finish and control knob choice

Please Note: I’m very grateful for the investment, support, encouragement and friendship of the following players. Without them and others like them JHV3 wouldn’t be sustainable or be able to produce exceptional gear in the few years as an official “builder”. These clips wouldn’t be available in such an articulate form without the expertise and generous work of my friend Scott Dungan, the consummate tech+vintage+modern+creative+uber-talented+modest+genius, who is an incredible keys player and expert at anything Ableton (or other DAW). I’m afraid to ask how long he worked to make sure each section of clips were accurate comparisons without additives.

Jonathan Shelton used a ‘52 Tele Reissue with Lindy Fralin (hot) pickups, through a  Gabriel V18 head w/ 2x12 open back cab. All clips contain the exact same performance re-amped for consistent comparison. The first take will be labeled for each set. The amp settings for each clip remained the same unless noted, and the rear controls of the Gariel V18 were the same throughout: Contour “F”, 16Ohms.
